Inglot Eye Shadow Review

I finally succumbed to the lure of Inglot recently when I was on the look out for some new mauve/pink eye shadows.  I went in with the intention of getting maybe 4 or 5 shadows but walked out with 10 of them!  They are €5 for a round 1.4g pan, which is a lot cheaper than €9 for a 1.5g round pan in MAC.  The range in Inglot is broad and it’s easy to get a bit carried away.  So I got a few mauves to compliment some MAC ones I have and I also got some golds (seriously I have to stop with the golds I think I’m addicted to them?) and some grey blues.

If you’re familiar with Inglot then you know you can also get square pans for €6 (I don’t like the shape personally) and you can get them put into various sized palettes.  I prefer to buy the pans and drop them into other palettes I own.  Note that these pans are not magnetized so will fall out of a MAC palette, but I have a little tip for that one (how to fit an Inglot eyeshadow into a MAC palette).

How To ‘Fit’ an Inglot Eye Shadow Pan into a MAC Palette

I did a review on some Inglot eye shadows I bought and as I like to keep my eyeshadows in as few a palettes as possible, I thought I would share how I stored these new eye shadows.  So if you, like me, didn’t want to buy the Inglot palette and have an unfilled MAC palette at home, then your new best friend is magnetic tape. You can get this in most craft, hobby or art shops. This magnetic tape comes on a roll and is easy to tear off. It has one sticky side and is magnetized on the other.  I think I paid about €5 for it and have it an absolute age as you use very little of it at a time.

Golden Days Now Autumns Here! Simple Eye Shadow Looks Using Gold

I’m really loving gold recently so much so I feel like standing up and saying ‘Hi, I’m Fiona, and I have a gold make up problem’.  I buy it, and look at it like Golum and his infamous ring, feeling it’s too precious to use or I won’t have the occasion to wear it.

So in response to Aine who took part in my MAC Golden Gaze give away, and asked me to do some gold eyeshadow looks using Golden Gaze, I thought I would show some looks using others golds instead, just in case you don’t get your hands on the lovely Golden Gaze.

Gold to me is usually an occasion colour but I really wanted to do a day time look with them, something really simple, quick to do, and easy to wear.  I’d love to have had a young model to work on to do these, as the quality of my eyelid skin is not great for shimmery eyeshadows, that’s age for you!!  I did a Gold and Green and a Gold and Pink eye shadow look. ‘I Wanna Go’ Get Blue Eye Shadow

Britney is looking so fantastic these days, she’s really got her groove back and I’m absolutely loving her eye makeup on the cover of her new single ‘I Wanna Go’ out June 7th or 8th? I haven’t heard the song yet, it could be pants, but I want to talk about her makeup not her music!

I’m always a little terrified of blue eye liner as it brings back nightmares from the early eighties in fact I think a Rimmel blue eye liner was the very first bit of makeup I ever owned.  I know lots of people are wearing blue eye shadows and blue eye liners but I think Britney really shows us how to wear blue successfully by restricting it to below the lower lashes. Someone Tell January It’s Not Halloween Until October!

January Jones: X-Men First Class Premiere

The usually gorgeous and heavily pregnant January Jones of Ad-Men fame turned up at the X-Men Premier with radiant skin, and glowing cheeks, pregnancy is obviously suiting her, I thought the choice of both blush and lipstick were perfect for her colouring.  But the eyeshadow – oh my me – it’s not Halloween January!  Don’t get me wrong I like the colour combination very ‘surfer’ and on-trend, mixing aquatic colours, blue and green, and January has a nice shade of grey blue eyes that carry these colours well but what was she thinking putting that much dark shadow on the inner corners of her eyes?  I don’t get it, she’s so beautiful and has good proportions to her face, why would you want to make your eyes look closer together??  I just couldn’t help myself, I decided to photoshop her eye makeup.  Read the rest of this entry »

Backstage at YSL: No Lip, Please

I am completely in love with the pared back look at the YSL fall 2011 show, read about how it came to be at makeup.com ‘Backstage at YSL: No Lip, Please‘.  ‘Eyes were softly defined with brown shadow (Eyeshadow Duo in No. 1 Heavenly Beige-Astral Brown) and brown mascara (Volume Effets Faux Cils in No. 2 Rich Brown), then brows were pumped up and slightly darkened with pencil and powder. And it took a mix of three lip colors—Rouge Pur Couture Lipstick in No. 10 Beige Tribute, Rouge Pur Couture Lipstick in No. 36 Coral Legend (out this fall), and Golden Gloss in No. 11 Golden Whisper—to create the fleshy pink lips.’

A difficult look to pull off if your skin is not perfect, particularly in the harsh Irish winter months, but it’s so lovely to see such fresh natural looking beauty.  Got to give it a go!

A Lesson in Why Less is More

Cannes: Too Much!!

Much Better!!

A good reason to lay off the heavy dark eyeshadow as you get older!  Gwen Stefani, photographed at Cannes film festival this year, demonstrates what happens when you put your makeup on in the dark! lol.  The reality is that Gwen, now 41 or 42  has some sagging on her brow bone, nothing amazing there, she’s only human, but all that dark eyeshadow is making her skin look very crepey.  Compare the photo taken at Cannes to a photo taken just a few months ago, where she still manages to create an intense dramatic eye but it’s less aging on her when she keeps the product on her eyelids and avoids the brow bone area.  Less is definetely more!

Get an Eyeful of Cheryl!

Okay so there’s a bit of talk about Cheryl Cole who ‘not only brought it – but put it out there’ in Cannes in a white Stephane Rolland Couture dress at the Habemus Papem premiere on Friday 13th May.  But hey, if you’ve got it flaunt it, I guess?  But I think her make up is worth a mention. I’m really loving her make up, particularly her eye make up.  The placement of gold shimmer eyeshadow/highlight at the inner corners and along the upper and lower lash line really bring brightness and light to her eyes, the deep dark ruby red lipstick is stunning and the sweep of shimmer on her cheek and brow bone adds drama and a glow to her face (see next pic by clicking on ‘read the rest of this entry’ below).

I’m not sure everyone could get away with that amount of shimmer but I think Cheryl carries it off.  Then again I don’t think there are many that could get away with that neck line either, but she has such a beautiful face it hard to be distracted away from it for too long – she has one of those faces you are compelled to look at!  Read the rest of this entry »

Eurovision Winners Party Makeup

Okay, so I’ve officially got Eurofever!!  Very excited about watching on Saturday!! Come on Jedward! Bring the Eurovision home!!!

If you are hosting a Eurovision party this weekend and cheering on Jedward – rather than dressing up like Jedward (bridge too far for me!) then how about an Irish winners themed party, the girls could come dressed as Dana (1970) or Linda Martin (1992), the guys can even dress up in a white boiler suit reminiscent on Johnny Logan ‘Hold me now’ (1980 + 1987).  My favourite makeup look would have to be the 80’s for the sheer fun of it! (Confession:  I am a child of the 80’s!!)  Read the rest of this entry »
