3 Aldi Bargain Dressing Table Essentials

Aldi 3 ply super soft facial tissues €0.85

Yesterday I did a review of Aldi’s LACURA Concealer Pen, (great little product), so I thought that I would also share what my favourite and must have other Aldi beauty buys are.   First up, a box of three ply facial tissues (60 tissues per box) for only €0.85.  The tissues are a lovely quality, they are soft and feel luxurious being three ply.  The boxes are pretty and come in a range of different patterns and designs that look attractive on your dressing table, the green and pink patterns are my favourite. At only €0.85 a box, that’s fantastic value to my mind.

Next up, an constant essential for me, Lacura cotton buds, a must have for mascara mishap clean ups, or used slightly damp as a smudger.  I particularly love using them for scooping cream products out of tubs in the absence of a spatula, anything is better than dunking fingers into product or double dipping with a brush (pet hate!). Sometimes they can be a little bit fibrous but for €0.45 for a box of 100, I can live with that. Read the rest of this entry »

LACURA Concealer

Aldi’s LACURA Concealer has been around for ages and it’s well recognised as a favourite product amongst many, and yet somehow I had avoided trying it until about 4 days ago, I really don’t know why?  Brand snobbery maybe?  But I hope not, I should know better than that, high price does not always equal high quality.

The design of the LACURA packaging takes its inspiration from YSL Touche Eclat, but it looks like the poor relation.  I’d have preferred if the packaging was less of an imitation and more unique.

Packaging Similarities: YSL and LACURA

The colour is quite pinkish, and reminds me of L’Oreal Touche Magique although it’s not quite as pink, which is a good thing.  The consistency of the LACURA concealer is a lot nicer than Touche Magique, it’s lighter and far less likely to cake in my opinion.  That said, even with a primer I still need to use an under eye cream first to stop this product drying out, but that’s probably got more to do with the fact that I am 40, a younger face would get away with out the need for cream first.

L'Oreal Touche Magique v' LACURA Concealer Pen

The coverage is good, it really brightens up my under eye area and helps me to look more awake.  Which is all I can hope for from any under eye concealer.  LACURA state that this concealer is also idea as an eye shadow base, but I find that most concealers make for quite a decent enough eye shadow base, helping to keep eye shadow in place.

I have a few little bugbears with pen style products as a general rule, one is that they are very open to bacteria.  I personally never use them directly on my face; I usually pump some of the product out on to the back of my clean hand (anti bacterial hand gel is one of my best friends) and then apply the product with a makeup brush.  This is how I handle products used on clients but it’s a practice I use on my own personal products too as I feel it helps to extend the life of the product.   My other bug bear with ‘pen products’ is that you have no idea when you are about to run out, until you have actually run out!!!

Despite all of that I can now see why this product was voted a Star Buy in the Daily Mail in April 2010. It’s a cracking little product for only €4.49 and one I will buy again.
