LACURA Concealer

Aldi’s LACURA Concealer has been around for ages and it’s well recognised as a favourite product amongst many, and yet somehow I had avoided trying it until about 4 days ago, I really don’t know why?  Brand snobbery maybe?  But I hope not, I should know better than that, high price does not always equal high quality.

The design of the LACURA packaging takes its inspiration from YSL Touche Eclat, but it looks like the poor relation.  I’d have preferred if the packaging was less of an imitation and more unique.

Packaging Similarities: YSL and LACURA

The colour is quite pinkish, and reminds me of L’Oreal Touche Magique although it’s not quite as pink, which is a good thing.  The consistency of the LACURA concealer is a lot nicer than Touche Magique, it’s lighter and far less likely to cake in my opinion.  That said, even with a primer I still need to use an under eye cream first to stop this product drying out, but that’s probably got more to do with the fact that I am 40, a younger face would get away with out the need for cream first.

L'Oreal Touche Magique v' LACURA Concealer Pen

The coverage is good, it really brightens up my under eye area and helps me to look more awake.  Which is all I can hope for from any under eye concealer.  LACURA state that this concealer is also idea as an eye shadow base, but I find that most concealers make for quite a decent enough eye shadow base, helping to keep eye shadow in place.

I have a few little bugbears with pen style products as a general rule, one is that they are very open to bacteria.  I personally never use them directly on my face; I usually pump some of the product out on to the back of my clean hand (anti bacterial hand gel is one of my best friends) and then apply the product with a makeup brush.  This is how I handle products used on clients but it’s a practice I use on my own personal products too as I feel it helps to extend the life of the product.   My other bug bear with ‘pen products’ is that you have no idea when you are about to run out, until you have actually run out!!!

Despite all of that I can now see why this product was voted a Star Buy in the Daily Mail in April 2010. It’s a cracking little product for only €4.49 and one I will buy again.

Backstage at YSL: No Lip, Please

I am completely in love with the pared back look at the YSL fall 2011 show, read about how it came to be at ‘Backstage at YSL: No Lip, Please‘.  ‘Eyes were softly defined with brown shadow (Eyeshadow Duo in No. 1 Heavenly Beige-Astral Brown) and brown mascara (Volume Effets Faux Cils in No. 2 Rich Brown), then brows were pumped up and slightly darkened with pencil and powder. And it took a mix of three lip colors—Rouge Pur Couture Lipstick in No. 10 Beige Tribute, Rouge Pur Couture Lipstick in No. 36 Coral Legend (out this fall), and Golden Gloss in No. 11 Golden Whisper—to create the fleshy pink lips.’

A difficult look to pull off if your skin is not perfect, particularly in the harsh Irish winter months, but it’s so lovely to see such fresh natural looking beauty.  Got to give it a go!

L’Oreal Touche Magique or YSL Touche Eclat?

Much as I love YSL Touche Eclat my wallet doesn’t, it’s a bit on the pricy side at around €30, so I am always trying to find a good alternative.  Right now I’m loving L’Oreal’s Touche Magique ‘Anti-fatigue and illuminating concealer – smoothing effect’.  It comes in a range of colours from Ivory Beige to Deep Beige and at in and around €10 it’s a great product.  I personally love ‘Rose Porcelain’ to mask dark circles as I am quite pale, I do however mix it Read the rest of this entry »
