MAC 217 Brush Dupe

While looking for something I could get free with my Boots No. 7 voucher, I headed to the No. 7 tools section and picked up a Boots No 7 blend and contour brush.  I have never seen this particular brush in the range before so I don’t know if it is a new addition or not.  This brush which retails at €7.00 is technically free when you use your boots voucher and is a dead ringer for the MAC 217 brush.

The No. 7 brush is slightly smaller, in that it is not as densely packed as the MAC 217 but that in no way diminishes it’s performance, it really does exactly the same job.  Read the rest of this entry »

No.7 Gold Metallic Eye Pencils

I recently purchased two of No. 7’s Metallic Eye Pencils, Gold and Camouflage, they are also available in a metallic blue and a purple, both of which look very pretty, but I was on a gold hunt!

These pencils glide on easily, but don’t expect to get a sharp line with them as they are super soft. The Camouflage colour is great for a creating a quick and dramatic smoky eye, and the gold pencil can be used to create highlights at the inner corners of the eye.  The gold colour is also lovely when placed directly over the camouflage colour particularly along the lower lash line, it produces an intense black-gold look and gives your smoky eyes an extra bit of sparkly depth.  . The Gold is a good strong visible gold and the Camouflage is an interesting mix of green, black with a hint of gold. Over all, I was impressed with the colour payoff of these pencils

On the down side… well they are neither long wearing nor waterproof, which is a shame, and in my opinion have a tendency to slide and fade after a few hours so you would definitely need an eye shadow/eye lid primer to help with the staying power.  I’m happy I bought these, in particular the gold pencil, but I don’t think I would purchase them again.

Priced at €9.95 each they are a bit dear, of course you can get them at a better price if you wait for a 3 for 2 offer, and if you have a Boots €7.50 off voucher. Yes you can use the voucher against 3 for 2 products, at least I have on numerous occasions, meaning you could get three of them for a total of €12.40, an average of €4.13 which I guess is reasonable for what they are.

How to Get Emma’s Look – That’s Elementary Dear Watson!

Emma Watson sure does look a million dollars on the cover of American Vogue.  So how do you get Emma’s look on the cheap, well that’s elementary dear Watson!

It’s a simple look that’s all about intense deep plum red lips and nails, and matching them together.  Not a traditional summer look but given the dreary weather in Ireland at the moment, it sure feels like winter, so I say go for it!  And it’s a pretty cool look for a night out.

Lips:  Try Rimmel Lasting Finish Lipstick in Starry Eyed for €6.55.  Lash on a few coats of this stuff and top it off with a clear lipgloss.  You can see from the swatches (see below) that it gets more intense the more you apply, well it is only €6.55!!

I’m sure there are others but it’s the only ‘drug store’ brand I found that came close to what Emma’s wearing on the cover of Vogue.

Rimmel say it lasts up to 8 hours, I didn’t think it did. Mind you I’m sure there’s a right way and a wrong way to wear it.  It might last if you decide not to eat or drink anything unless it can be consumed through a straw for 8 hours.  That said I love the colour and it doesn’t feel dry at all like some long wear lipsticks.
